When people ask me what is South Orange like ? I often say aside from having amazing stately homes and a great commute to NYC it has a great vibe. Sometimes it is difficult to put a town’s personality into words. Not all NJ suburbs are alike –they each have their own particular culture.
As a former resident of South Orange for 17 years, there are so many ways to describe its character. I like to call it an urban suburb. It almost feels more like you are living in Brooklyn than a typical NJ suburb.
Without living in a town it is hard to say what it like, but one of its most defining features is the downtown center. It offers a unique blend of retail establishments from a frame store, shoemaker and several nail salons to fine restaurants, casual restaurants, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, boutiques, a great bakery, a state of the art performing arts theatre, a movie theatre and multiple food stores.
