The new construction trend in Short Hills real estate remains on fire and I love the fact that this one is truly modern. Most of the new construction homes I preview tend to replicate traditional architecture because they want to blend in with the older, established homes in the neighborhood. But yesterday, we were given a real treat when we saw the unveiling of this brand new home that is ultra modern and fabulous.
I’m glad it doesn’t look like another newly built colonial trying to be something its not. As far as fitting in with the neighborhood — it fits in great because the property is large enough to handle this mega square footage (10,000 square feet to be exact) of the footprint.
From the outside it looks boxy with a lot of hard edges. But modern homes often have this look. That all changes when you open the front door and get bathed in light from virtually every angle. There’s the wall of glass straight in front of you that must be at least 12 feet high and looks out on to the patio and grassy backyard. There’s the glass panels on each side of the front door and the foyer is 2 stories high with a floating staircase making it feel extra open and airy.
With virtually no walls on the main floor the flow from room to room is surreal. The living space on the main floor includes the living room, kitchen, family room, dining room and a master bedroom with separate walk-in closets and luxurious master bath. Because the exterior walls are largely glass and there are basically no interior walls – it felt like you were almost in the outdoors.
The materials felt very natural, using mostly stone and wood. Besides all of the built-ins, lighting and an amazing chef’s kitchen, my personal favorite amenity is the outdoor shower right off the master bath through a sliding door.
You can see more photos and details here. It can be yours (or someone you know) for $4.8M.
If you get a chance to see this master piece in person, don’t miss it.
